Arkitrek is a social enterprise promoting the conservation of natural resources in the building industry through design and education. We balance design consulting and educational programs into a unique and holistic architectural practice.

Consulting expertise is specialised on development projects in natural and rural areas. We are experts in tropical passive design and the integration of architecture with sustainable infrastructure and the natural environment. Enquiries about consulting services can be made on our contact page.

Our clients usually have development projects in natural and rural areas, often including elements of environmental education, ecological research, sustainablity standards and responsible tourism. Our core skill is to identify, protect and enhance the ‘natural capital’ of a site. This means ensuring that buildings and infrastructure do not compromise ecosystem services or make unsustainable demands on either communities or natural resources.

Typical considerations will be; participatory design process, sensitive siting of buildings, passive design, energy conservation, renewable energy, water resource management, effective waste water treatment and buildings which respond to local culture, climate and environment.

We also look for linkages between our design consulting and our educational programs. This can bring benefits to not-for-profit clients by reducing professional fees on aspects of a project which can be tackled as an educational program. For examples of this, look at our relationship with clients such as Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre and Camps International. The inclusion of an educational program can also extend the sphere of influence, awareness and R&D for a client’s activities.

Arkitrek believes in conservation of natural areas and therefore natural resources. The construction industry uses a lot of natural resources so we can meet our social objective by helping clients to develop projects which conserve and protect natural resources and inspire respect, understanding and appreciation for the natural world.
