Arkitrek is looking for a senior architect with potential to become director of design, with responsibility for delivering design services to our clients in local government, NGO and tourism sectors. There will also be opportunities for this director to contribute to our experiential learning programs.

Arkitrek is a social enterprise, meaning that our success is measured in terms of social return. Our social objective is conservation of natural resources and we can achieve this either through the clients we choose to work with, by practicing sustainability or by education.

The new director will have the choice to be either an investor or non-investor. As the company grows we plan to have at least as many non-investor directors as investor directors, with the income rights of investors being capped. This is so that personal financial interests don’t control the company, in line with our social enterprise status.

The director’s role will include directing design projects from inception to completion, inspections on remote sites, managing relationships with submitting architects, mentoring young staff and developing new business opportunities.

Candidates will be Malaysian, or have the right to work in Malaysia. They will have RIBA Part II equivalent and minimum 5 years professional experience in architecture. Diverse work experience, including teaching, green building design and community development would be a bonus, but not essential. What is essential is a passion for nature, community and responsible business…and a willingness to risk a leech bite in the jungle occasionally.

Arkitrek is a young and unique practice and now is an exciting time to join the small team and help shape our business culture as we grow.

We also have a position for an Architectural Assistant at RIBA Part II equivalent level with minimum 2 years work experience. Again, candidates will be Malaysian, or have the right to work in Malaysia.
