Not so much as a fart of Biogas
You will recall from my earlier post that we have been building a biogas digester at Camp Tinangol with Camps International. The aim of this prototype was to test whether a biogas digester could be built using unskilled labour, such as gap year students on a Camps International trip. We based our design on the well documented Deenbandhu model with a ferro-cement fixed dome for storing gas under water pressure. Camps International are also working with us on a second digester at the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre...
Poop 2, The Sequel.
By Rory View original post on the Camps International Project Blog Following on from my last post about the Bio Gas collector (Human waste is where its at), I want to now run you through our progress to date. Before I do that below is a sketch drawing of whats involved in the construction. Basically several tanks joined together, a bit of wizardry with water pressure and balancing and a domed lid with a pipe coming off it. Our plan is to build our very own bio gas collector as a prototype so that we can demonstrate...
Kampung Details
Here is a selection of quirky architectural details found on a project site at Kampung Tinangol Sabah. Kampung means village in Malay and is synonymous with things improvised, honest, basic and hardworking, to use just a few adjectives. The long house. Note that many posts are wonky. I learned recently that bent posts serve as rudimentary braces in lieu of triangulation, thus keeping the structure more stable. The long house veranda is popular for the afternoon snooze, presumably because the slatted bamboo floor feels...
Human waste is where its at!!
By Rory View original post on the Camps International Project Blog Its true – human waste is where its at! Its the future you know – dont need any of this extracting gas and oil from the centre of the earth with all its associated detrimental environmental effects – just use what you flush away every day. This is the ultimate in recycling and minimising your impact – so sit back and learn about Bio Gas Collectors – even better sit back and learn whilst contributing to your bio gas collector,...
Biogas Collector
I find myself getting deeper into the shit. I'm not sure how it happened but I have become interested in biogas collectors. This is a device used to collect the biogas (mostly methane) which is emitted when biological waste is digested by bacteria. The biogas once collected can be burned to provide cooking, lighting and carbon credits. The chemistry of burning methane in the presence of oxygen is that it produces water and CO2. Carbon dioxide is a less potent greenhouse gas than methane so that's how we can earn carbon credits. The...
