Borneo Rainforest Lodge, Chalets
Arkitrek’s work for Borneo Rainforest Lodge began with the phased renovation, over 3 years, of 28 chalets. In doing so, his client reset the benchmark as the leading nature resort in Sabah.
Each instance of the four original chalet types was adapted to suit its unique location and orientation within the Lodge grounds. The design principles stayed true to the philosophy of creating cool and comfortable rooms without air conditioning. This was achieved this by following passive design principles of thermal insulation, thermal mass and natural ventilation.
The brief also called for improved daylighting and to enhance the feeling of connection to nature. This was achieved through corner windows and generous insect mesh screens.
Premium chalets feature an outdoor solar heated bathtub for soothing the leech bites after a long day in the jungle.
