Mantanani Community Learning Centre
The Mantanani Community Learning Centre (CLC) is clad in woven bamboo panels which fill the interior space with diffuse light and ventilation. The superstructure is Mantanani Island driftwood, all sawn by chainsaw in the island ‘saw mill’.
The building was built by Camp Borneo volunterers with help from skilled local craftsmen.
The building was officially opened 18th October 2012. In his speech the school headmaster thanked Arkitrek for designing a building that was “modern, but which related to the traditions of Sabah.”
The building is now under the care of the village chief and the school headmaster. It is used as the school library, and additional classroom and a space for community workshops and activities.
