Arkitrek Serasa Beach, Brunei

Youth & Community Led Sustainable Design
11th – 30th July 2012

Arkitrek is offering places on a participatory design-build workshop in Brunei this July.

Serasa beach is a popular recreational spot to the north of the city of Bandar Seri Begawan, in Brunei Darussalam. A comprehensive re-development masterplan is in the pipeline for this manmade spit of land. The Serasa Beach Arkitrek will be an opportunity for young Bruneians and stakeholders such as hawker stall operators to have their say in how Serasa Beach should be developed.

The project will involve; surveying, brief writing, stakeholder interviews, master planning, and a design-build element. The built element will be an iconic structure, exhibition space and rallying point, something tangible to give identity to the process of youth and community engagement.

The Arkitrek project team will comprise enthusiastic high-school students, university architecture students & graduates. Guidance will be provided by professional teachers, architects and engineers. Qualities we are looking for in participants are; creativity, intuition and self motivation. Sketching, model-making and construction skills would be a bonus.

Price

Course Only – BND1,400 (excluding accommodation – suitable for local Bruneians)
Course + Accommodation – BND 2,200 (suitable for international participants)
‘Course Only’ option includes lunches.
